Volunteer

We would like to encourage you to come out and volunteer with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro. We are building Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 8 am until 3 pm.  All volunteers  must register with Volunteer Services (336-275-4663) or with your sponsor group PRIOR to coming out on the site.  This helps us manage our volunteers more efficiently and ensures a positive, safe experience for all.

You can come out by yourself or enlist members of your congregation, neighborhood, service organization, school, friends, business or social organization to come out and join others who are working together to help make the "American Dream" of home ownership come true for some very deserving families. Homes at our sites are in various phases of completion so there is always a need for volunteers. Working together on a Habitat house with people of all faiths can be self-fulfilling as well as a great team-building experience.

If you have a group that is interested in working together on a specific task such as painting, roofing or siding, you might consider becoming part of a "crew" and be called upon when a house is to the point of needing your particular talent. You can get additional information on our Volunteer Groups page.

Volunteer opportunities are also available at our ReStore on 3826 High Point Road. Their hours are Monday - Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The ReStore accepts donated items that are new or gently used for resale to the public. All proceeds go back into Habitat's home building program.  To schedule a pickup for large items that you would like to donate, please call the ReStore at (336) 851-2929.

The first step in becoming a part of Habitat's mission is your desire, the second step is completing the Online Registration & Orientation, and third, call the Volunteer Services Coordinator at 275-4663 so that they might direct you to the appropriate site.

If you have a child who is in the age range of 14 to 17 years old who would like to participate, you must contact our Volunteer Services Coordinator at 336-275-4663 PRIOR to coming out to our build locations so that they can be placed at a site where their skills and interests can best be utilized.  A Liability Waiver will need to be completed prior to their coming on the job site as well as a Minors Policies & Procedures Form. Sorry, children under the age of 14 are not allowed on our construction sites.

Restrictions for volunteers under 18 years of age :  Per Habitat for Humanity International policy, volunteers between the ages of 14 and 17 cannot be on ladders, the roof or use power tools.  Volunteers between 14 and 15 years of age can be on-site only when power tools are not  in use.  The tasks they can be involved with are landscaping and painting.  Volunteers between 16 and 17 years of age can be on-site when power tools are in use but they cannot  operate them.  Again, please contact our Volunteer Services Coordinator if you are under 18 years of age and are interested in volunteering so that you can be placed at a site where your skills and interests can best be utilized.
