CRITERIA NEEDED TO APPLY FOR A HOUSE THROUGH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF GREATER GREENSBORO:
  • Live or work in Guilford County
  • Have job history of one year, and current job for six months
  • Current house or apartment must have been in applicant's name for one year
  • Must contribute at least 300 volunteer hours of "sweat equity" building the applicant's and others' homes
  • Unable to qualify for a conventional loan
  • Have a credit check (must be able to clean up credit problems within one year)
  • Submit to a police check and a home visit
  • Annual income should fall between 30% to 75% of Area Median Income based on family sizes:

* Income requirements are adjusted annually.
 

  • PRIORITY WILL BE GIVEN TO FAMILIES THAT ARE LIVING IN SUBSTANDARD HOUSING.
  • PUBLIC HOUSING AND SECTION 8 TENANTS ARE WELCOME TO APPLY.

    While guidelines permit approval of families up to 75% of Area Median Income, many families higher in the range should be able to qualify for loans in other programs. The income of most Habitat for Humanity families in Greensboro does not exceed 60% of Area Median Income.
