At Habitat, we don’t just build houses. We build up working families every day.

Habitat Homeowners

Applicants for Habitat homes are often living in substandard, unsafe housing. They don’t qualify for a traditional loan, which makes the dream of home ownership challenging.

People who meet the requirements for a Habitat home are eligible for a 0% interest loan. Approved families work side-by-side with volunteers and staff for 300 hours and receive training about personal finance, home maintenance and more. This investment – called Sweat Equity – gives family members a common goal and helps them become part of the fabric of their new community.

When a Habitat home has been completed, we host a home dedication to celebrate. After they move in, families continue to have access to resources to help them get involved in the community and continue to learn about home ownership. When a homeowner pays off his/her mortgage, we celebrate that milestone, too!
